The final weeks of September bring live music, dance, cultural traditions and family celebrations throughout the Bay Area. From an Argentine-American singer-songwriter and traditional Spanish flamenco to a Berkeley fall festival and one of Redwood City’s largest seasonal celebrations, residents have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the region’s cultural diversity.
Alejandro Meola celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Argentine-American singer brings tour to the Bay Area
Singer-songwriter and guitarist Alejandro Meola brings his Hispanic Heritage Month tour to Northern California, performing his new single Viejo Teléfono along with music blending rock en español, blues, folk and global sounds. Meola has performed across the United States, Europe and Latin America and has been featured on NPR World Cafe’s Best New Latino playlist.

El Flamenco de Jerez
Andalusian artists bring flamenco tradition to Northern California
Dancers Macarena de Jerez and Carmen Herrera join vocalist José Mijita, guitarist Ismael Heredia and percussionist Manuel Vinaza for two performances celebrating the music, dance and flamenco traditions of Jerez and Andalusia.

Viva Fall Fest comes to Berkeley
Music, dancing and family activities fill Fourth Street
Viva Fall Fest brings Latin music, food, local artisans, small businesses and family entertainment to Fourth Street Makers Row. The free afternoon celebration includes salsa dancing from 2–3 p.m. and colorful folklórico performances beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Oktoberfest continues in Redwood City
German music and traditions take over Courthouse Square
Redwood City’s Oktoberfest continues through Sept. 27 with German music, dancing, food, beer and family activities under the festival tent at Courthouse Square. Scheduled performers during the remaining celebration include Deutscher Musikverein, Alpine Sound Band, Nature Friends Schuhplattler and The Internationals.
