Mariachi and ranchera singer Aida Cuevas took home a Grammy in the best regional Mexican music album category for her Arriero Somos Versiones Acústicas album.

Her win was a surprise because she was nominated among genre favorites including Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga and Julión Álvarez.

Most notably, Cuevas is now an independent artist, and her album, a collection of covers performed with only guitar accompaniment, was released under her own label.

“I’m very proud to be Mexican and to be here with my charrera outfit,” Cuevas told the entertainment magazine Billboard, referring to the traditional embroidered charro outfit she wore to pick up her first-ever Grammy.

She later spoke with the newspaper Milenio, stating that “as a representative of ranchera music I feel doubly proud, because I’m the first female Mexican ranchera singer to win a Grammy . . . this is a milestone in my career.”

She recalled a similar milestone eight years ago when her De corazón a corazón . . . Mariachi tango album earned her a Latin Grammy.

Cuevas has earned more than 300 awards in her 42-year career, but Sunday’s was “certainly special.”

“It’s the greatest award in [the music industry] . . . It is very important and I was very fortunate to win one,” she said.

Known as “the queen of ranchera music,” Cuevas has released 39 albums, selling more than 7 million copies worldwide.

It was the second Grammy in the regional Mexican music category to be won by a Mexican woman in recent years. Lila Downs won the award in 2012.

Cuevas lamented that traditional music “is not listened to, receives poor promotion and gets little support,” and that it’s only after musicians win awards abroad that Mexicans turn around and see in a good way what is happening at the national level.

Song by Jennifer López ranked number 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay

The song Amor, Amor Amor, by U.S. singer Jennifer López, is currently ranked number one on Billboard’’s Latin Airplay list.

The song, featuring Puerto Rican singer Wisin, became the most popular track on Latin radio in the United States and Puerto Rico, according to Sony Music.

Amor Amor Amor has also achieved outstanding online rates with more than 59 million views on the Vevo channel on Youtube, and over 24 million streams on Spotify.

The song is the second single of the n ew album in Spanish by López ‘Por primera vez’, which will be released this year.

After ten years without recording in Spanish, Lopez, also actress and producer of Puerto Rican origin, returns to the music with this album, from which the song ‘Ni tú ni yo’ was also released.

The album, produced by Marc Anthony, includes featuring by Colombian singer Maluma and the Cuban duet Gente de Zona.

With various awards and recognitions throughout her career, Lopez has shared the stage with important figures of music.

WikiLeaks exposes how Council of Foreign Relations controls most all mainstream media

A single organization controls almost everything you see, hear, and read in the media and they’ve been handpicking your leaders for decades

It is no secret that over the last four decades, mainstream media has been consolidated from dozens of competing companies to only six. Hundreds of channels, websites, news outlets, newspapers, and magazines, making up ninety percent of all media is controlled by very few people—giving Americans the illusion of choice.

While six companies controlling most everything the Western world consumes in regard to media may sound like a sinister arrangement, the Swiss Propaganda Research center (SPR) has just released information that is even worse.

The research group was able to tie all these media companies to a single organization—the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

For those who may be unaware, the CFR is a primary member of the circle of Washington think-tanks promoting endless war. As former Army Major Todd Pierce describes, this group acts as “primary provocateurs” using “‘psychological suggestiveness’ to create a false narrative of danger from some foreign entity with the objective being to create paranoia within the U.S. population that it is under imminent threat of attack or takeover.”

A senior member of the CFR and outspoken neocon warmonger, Robert Kagan has even publicly proclaimed that the US should create an empire.

The narrative created by CFR and its cohorts is picked up by their secondary communicators, also known the mainstream media, who push it on the populace with no analysis or questioning.

When looking at the chart from SPR, the reach by this single organization is so vast that it is no mystery as to how these elite psychopaths guide Americans into accepting endless war at the expense of their mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters.

Top journalists and executives from all major media companies are integrated into the CFR. As the chart below illustrates, the CFR has even more control in the mainstream media than even the nefarious Bilderberg Group and the Trilateral Commission.

As SPR points out, Richard Harwood, former managing editor and ombudsman of the Washington Post, wrote about the Council on Foreign Relations Recognizing that its members most likely correspond to what one might call the “ruling establishment of the United States.”

Harwood continued, “The membership of these journalists in the council, however they may think of themselves, is an acknowledgment of their active and important role in public affairs and of their ascension into the American ruling class. They do not merely analyze and interpret foreign policy for the United States; they help make it.”

Let that sink in. This group of unaccountable, unelected, professional propagandists in America doesn’t simply analyze US government policy—they make it.

While only five percent of the members of CFR work within the media, as SPR points out that is all they need to implement the will of its other members that includes:

• several US presidents and vice presidents of both parties;
• almost all foreign, defense and finance ministers;
• most chiefs of staff and commanders of the US military and NATO;
• nearly all National Security Advisers, CIA Directors, UN Ambassadors, Fed Chairmen, World Bank Presidents, and Directors of the National Economic Council;
• some of the most influential members of Congress (especially foreign and security politicians);
• numerous media managers and top journalists, as well as some of the most famous actors;
• numerous prominent academics, especially in the key areas of economics, international relations, political and historical sciences, and journalism;
• numerous executives from think tanks, universities, NGOs, and Wall Street;
• and key members of the 9/11 Commission and the Warren Commission (JFK).

To highlight just how much control over the media the CFR wields we need only look at the fact that they operate—in the open—and receive nearly no media coverage. The former chairman of the CFR, High Commissioner for Germany, co-founder of the Atlantic Bridge, World Bank president, and an adviser to a total of nine US presidents, John J. McCloy actually bragged publicly about the CFR hand picking US politicians.

“Whenever we needed a man [in Washington], we just thumbed through the roll of Council members and put through a call to New York [to the CFR’s headquarters office],” said McCloy.

Until the election of Trump the past four presidents have been the director of the CFR, George HW Bush, who was replaced by a member of the CFR, Bill Clinton, who was replaced by a family member of the CFR, George W Bush, who was then replaced by CFR aspirant candidate Barack Obama—who filled his cabinet with members of the elite group.
Although Donald Trump was never a public member of the CFR, that did not stop him from filling the White House with dozens of CFR members.

Here are just a few of the CFR members appointed by Trump:

• Elaine Chao, United States Secretary of Transportation (CFR individual member)
• Jamie Dimon, Member of Strategic and Policy Forum (CFR corporate member)
• Jim Donovan, Deputy Treasury Secretary (CFR corporate member)
• Larry Fink, Member of Strategic and Policy Forum (CFR corporate member)
• Neil M. Gorsuch, Supreme Court Justice (individual CFR member)
• Vice Admiral Robert S. Harward, National Security Advisor (declined appointment) (CFR corporate member)

Even though Trump wasn’t a CFR member outright, his cabinet is made up almost entirely of its members. As this information illustrates—democracy is an illusion. If ever you needed another reason to tune out of mainstream media and seek out information for yourself—this is it. It also explains why information like this, which challenges this worldview is under attack.

La demora de los republicanos en publicar el resumen de la investigación de Russiagate del Comité de Inteligencia de la Cámara de Representantes está dando peso a la afirmación de los presidentes de que el informe no se está divulgando, porque es un intento de pirateo en un encubrimiento de Trump que no es creíble. NAG: one of the good sugars

Sugar is pretty interesting stuff. It’s also misunderstood. For one thing, we all love how “sugar” tastes, but we don’t necessarily love its effects. That presents a problem. Despite it’s well-documented health hazards, just because we love the stuff, no matter how much we try to abstain, when it comes right down to it, turning down that apple pie a la mode or peach gelato, as much as we’d like to, can be pretty difficult and at times impossible. That’s because our brainy cells which are fueled by the sweet and sticky substance, are hardwired to love sugar! On the other hand, the downside of sugar ingestion includes weight gain, diabetes, eye disease, hypertension, jittery-ness and anxiety.
Well, those we would rather do without. Thus the love-hate relationship we have with what is generally referred to as “sugar”.

However, unbeknownst to many, there’s a whole other side to the subject of sugar! The chemical that most of us know as “sugar” and the substance that is so problematic is actually a special type of sugar called “glucose”. As it turns out, glucose is just one version of eight different sugars that are collectively, if not entirely accurately, referred to as “essential”. These seven other essential sugars aren’t very tasty or sweet but, importantly, they provide lots of health benefits.

One of these essential sugars is called N-acetyl glucosamine (NAG) from which the arthritis-fighting nutritional supplement glucosamine can be derived. NAG can be especially helpful for skin health. The body can use it as a raw material for the production of the skin’s natural moisturizer: hyaluronic acid. It can help prevent and reduce fine line and crow’s feet formation by activating collagen making cells. It may even be used topically to help lighten dark spots and improve other visible signs of skin aging, including thinning and wrinkled skin. Its digestive system supporting properties can help improve immune system health and reduce the entrance of skin destroying inflammatory factors through the small intestine. In fact, under conditions of digestive distress, especially leaky gut syndrome, it’s likely the body will divert NAG away from the skin to help repair the gut lining. That means less NAG available for keeping skin youthful, moisturized and robust. If you’re interested in using N-acetyl glucosamine, it’s available in supplement form; try a daily dose of 500 or so mg. Good food sources of NAG include aloe, shitake mushrooms and cartilage.

If you want to use NAG topically, anti-aging skin health benefits can be derived by applying it directly onto the skin. Try making your own skin lightening and tightening toner by putting the contents of one or two 500mg capsules of NAG in a cup or two of distilled water or aloe vera gel. NAFTA round ends on more positive note

Economy Secretary says it’s ‘a better moment’ but sticky issues remain

The latest round of talks to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) ended on a positive note yesterday, with officials from Mexico, the United States and Canada all saying that progress was made, although they also conceded that sticking points still remain.

“We are at a much better moment,” Mexico Economy Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo declared at a press conference in Montreal, Canada, where the discussions were held.
“Progress was achieved in several areas of the negotiation, especially in the chapters that aim to modernize NAFTA,” he added.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said “we believe some progress was made,” but added that the pace of renegotiation needs to increase.

“We finally began to discuss some of the core issues, so this round was a step forward — but we are progressing very slowly. We owe it to our citizens, who are operating in a state of uncertainty, to move much faster,” he said.

Officials from all three countries said that they want to conclude negotiations before elections are held in Mexico and the United States later this year. Mexicans will go to the polls on July 1 to elect a new president while midterm elections will be held in the U.S. in early November.

The Montreal meeting was the sixth round of talks that have been held since August and analysts described it as a make-or-break moment for the 24-year-old agreement.

In addition to the constraints created by the upcoming electoral processes, negotiators are under pressure to reach an agreement quickly to allay concerns that the United States could terminate the agreement, a threat made repeatedly by U.S. President Donald Trump.

In the latest round, the three countries agreed to language in a chapter governing anti-corruption measures and progress was also made on issues related to customs and food sanitation.

Negotiations on annexes relating to chemicals and pharmaceuticals are also close to completion and Guajardo said that chapters on telecommunications and digital trade are about 90 percent complete.

However, reaching agreement on more contentious issues remains elusive.

Rules of origin, especially as they apply to the automotive industry, continue to be a major obstacle. The United States is demanding that vehicles have a higher proportion of parts made in the U.S. in order to qualify for the NAFTA tariff-free rules.

Canada proposed that intellectual property and emerging technologies could be included in the rules of origin for the auto sector. U.S. companies are leaders in both.
But Lighthizer criticized the proposal, saying it “may actually lead to less regional content than we have now and fewer jobs in the United States, Canada, and likely Mexico.”
“This is the opposite of what we are trying to do,” he said.

A so-called sunset clause forcing renegotiation of the agreement every five years and the elimination of a dispute-resolution mechanism, both pushed by the U.S., as well as wages in Mexico, are also contentious.

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland defended the rules of origin idea but conceded that “there is still a significant gap on a number of issues.”

She added, “we are going to be working extremely hard, extremely energetically with our two partners to try to close those gaps.”

While the possibility that the U.S. could start the process to terminate NAFTA remains a real threat, in his closing statement the U.S. trade representative used language that contrasted sharply with some of the more abrasive rhetoric used by President Trump when talking about the agreement.

Lighthizer said “the United States views NAFTA as a very important agreement” adding that he was “hopeful progress will accelerate soon.”

“We will engage with Mexico and Canada urgently, and we will go where these negotiations take us,” he said.

However, he also said, “I don’t think the president’s view has changed at all. His view is if we can get a good agreement, we should have one.”

“I think there is some misunderstanding here that the United States is somehow being unfair in these negotiations and that is not the case,” he said.

The next round of talks will be held in Mexico City next month but Lighthizer said he hoped that “major breakthroughs” would be made before it starts.

Guajardo also said that “Mexico is committed to intensifying our engagement and will continue working constructively to solve the pending issues.”

Although the second Mexico City round is scheduled to be the final meeting and there is an informal deadline to finish the negotiations before March 31, many in the business and trade sectors believe that the talks could go on much longer and even into 2019.

According to some analysts, uncertainty around the future of NAFTA, including any U.S. move to kill it, is likely to benefit Andrés Manuel López Obrador in his quest to win the presidency.

In a poll published yesterday by the newspaper El Universal, the leftist leader had 32 percent voter support followed by Ricardo Anaya with 26 percent. The pre-candidate for the ruling party, José Antonio Meade, garnered only 16 percent.

Redwood City Pages is a new public art piece to be displayed at the City’s Downtown Library and created through the help of the Redwood City community. Over this last year, the community participated in paper making and cyanotype workshops and celebrated Redwood City’s history and community through art.

Shape of Water leads Oscar nominations

Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is on a roll. His latest film, already the winner of three big awards, has swept the Academy Awards nominations with a total of 13.

Best picture and best director are among the Oscar nominations announced this morning for The Shape of Water, del Toro’s 10th feature film.

The “romantic ode to the horror films of his youth,” as described by the magazine Variety, fell just one nomination short of tying for the record of 14 Academy Award nominations shared by the films All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land.

But it was one better than the number of nominations granted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, or BAFTA, where it raked in 12, including best film and best director.

In September, del Toro won the Golden Lion award for the best film at the Venice International Film Festival. The Jalisco-born filmmaker’s dark fantasy drama then went on to win two Golden Globes last month, including best director, out of seven nominations.

Along with best picture and best director, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominated The Shape of Water for best actress, best supporting actress, best supporting actor, best original screenplay, best original score, best film editing, best production design, best cinematography, best costume design, best sound editing and best sound mixing.

The film hit Mexican cinemas two weekends ago, rising to the top of the domestic box office and earning 61.2 million pesos (just under US $3.5 million) on its opening weekend.

The 90th Academy Awards ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California, at 7 p.m. CT on March 4.

Facility will be focus for cinematography
New center will open this year in Hermosillo, Sonora

As Mexican filmmakers make a name for themselves on international cinema screens, a project in Sonora could help to further encourage the film industry.

Scheduled for completion later this year, the new Cinematographic Arts Center (CAC) in Hermosillo should become a focal point for cinematography in the northwestern region of the country.

Hermosillo was chosen as the location because of the cinematographic activity taking place in nearby Baja California and Sinaloa, explained a spokesman for the federal Secretariat of Culture.

Marco Antonio Vera Crestani said the project is part of a broader federal policy to modernize cultural infrastructure.

The new center, a joint state-federal investment of 68.7 million pesos (close to US $3.8 million), will be unique, Vera said, because it was designed expressly for cinematography.

The secret House memo and “rescue from above”

The theme: Something starts off as fairly reasonable, and then is blown out of all proportion.

First, a brief recap on the secret House memo—not available to the press or public—and the reaction to it.

Purportedly, the memo will reveal that Democrat operatives—some inside the FBI and the DOJ—feloniously used a fake and fabricated “Trump dossier” to obtain a warrant to spy on the Trump team during and after the 2016 presidential campaign.

The spying was then undertaken to hopefully a) gain information that would help defeat Trump in the election; and b) connect Trump to “Russian efforts” to influence the election in his favor.

Breitbart: “Members of the House on Thursday said they viewed a ‘shocking’ classified memo allegedly detailing abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) by senior Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigations officials in relation to the investigation of the Trump campaign and called for it to be declassified and available to the public immediately.”

“’The facts contained in this memo are jaw-dropping and demand full transparency. There is no higher priority than the release of this information to preserve our democracy,’ said Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a member of the Judiciary Committee, which oversees the DOJ and the FBI.”

Another Judiciary Committee member, Rep. Steve King (R-IA), called what he saw in the memo ‘sickening’ and said it was ‘worse than Watergate’.”

From this platform, some people are expressing hope that the memo will achieve everything from jailing Hillary Clinton and James Comey to “draining the whole swamp.” They claim the memo contains the answer to who murdered Seth Rich, as well as the outline of a 16-year plan to destroy the US.

And at the extreme end of THAT scenario—there are friendly extra-terrestrials in the wings offering us help.
You can find such “analyses” sweeping around online.

It’s called Rescue From Above.

It happens every time…

In this case, what starts out as a possibly explosive secret memo, which could indict key members of the FBI and DOJ and DNC, including Hillary, and exonerate Trump from charges of Russian collusion…becomes a messianic mission from higher powers to save the country and the world.

And the key is: all people have to do is sit back and wait. Rescue will happen.

—Just as the Iraqi Dinar’s meteoric rise was coming soon, years ago; and just as UFOs, on their way here for decades, will be arriving any day, to give us free energy and benevolent reprogramming for our tattered DNA—

This pattern of Rescue From Above has been sold to populations by priest classes and divine-right monarchs for centuries. It’s called bait and switch.

The underlying principle is: the individual need not do anything except sign up for the Article of Faith. In fact, nothing he can do otherwise will help.

Socialism and Technocracy have sold the same bill of goods.

“The State will take care of you.”

“Merging your brain with a super-computer will endow you with truth and talent beyond your wildest dreams.”

Advertising follows the same model. “Merely by buying this product, you will become better.”

This perverse approach (also of course used by organized religious organizations) limits the definition of rescue to “something coming from the outside.”

Rescue certainly doesn’t come from YOU, for YOU.

No, no, no. That would be too much to ask. If true, that would be alarming.

No. Instead, sign up for a Great Marshmallow that will encase you and give you Fulfillment at some point, hopefully soon.

Righteously arresting government criminals for serious crimes is a long way off from the Marshmallow.

One of the first articles I wrote for publication (circa 1982, LA Weekly) described how certain “Tribulation and Rapture” Christian leaders in the US were urging extremist Israeli groups to raid the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. Destroying this holy Islamic Shrine would then trigger the ultimate war on the Plain of Armageddon.

But that was presented as a good thing. Because, in the process, God would lift true believers from Earth into Heaven, and the other billions of non-believers would perish in nuclear fire.

The Rescue From Above Marshmallow comes in different forms.

The National Defense Strategy unveiled by Pentagon chief James Mattis illustrates once again the revanchist Cold War mindset dominating Washington which is the inevitable expression of the US’ destructive addiction to militarism.

More than a quarter century after the official end of the Cold War between the US and the former Soviet Union, Washington has the cheek to label both Russia and China as “revisionist powers.”

Policy and discourse dominating Washington shows it is the US that is the biggest “revisionist power,” trying to revive ideological tensions and antagonism with Russia and China.

Defense Secretary Mattis declared last week that fighting non-state terrorism was no longer the primary focus of US national security. He said the “great power competition” with Russia and China was the new priority.

Mattis’ National Defense Strategy echoed themes contained in the National Security Strategy document published in December, which was signed off by President Trump. The NSS also cast Russia and China as “rivals” and existential threats to America’s influence in the world.

As with the NSS paper, Moscow and Beijing condemned the latest Pentagon document as being stuck in Cold War thinking and dealing with foreign relations in an “imperialistic” manner. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said it was regrettable that Washington, “instead of conducting normal dialogue is trying to prove its leadership using such confrontational concepts and strategies.”
This is after the US government voted last year to increase annual military spending by $50 billion to a record high of $700 billion.
Not even during the Cold War was the US military budget anywhere near the current outlay, according to comparative data cited by respected US economist David Stockman.

The US military budget is about 14 times that of Russia and four times that of China.

Simply put, in order to justify this stupendous largesse with American tax dollars, the Pentagon is compelled, out of logical necessity, to constantly portray the world as a threatening place.

“We are facing increased global disorder, characterized by decline in the long-standing rules-based international order – creating a security environment more complex and volatile than any we have experienced in recent memory,” states the National Defense Strategy.

Ironically, as Russian military intervention in Syria helped to destroy a Western-backed terrorist mercenary army, the US is now shifting its rationale for military spending from terrorism to Russia.

It is well documented that the US economy is largely dependent on the military-industrial complex. Over half of the nation’s annual discretionary budget is consumed by federal spending on military. This is, in effect, a massive taxpayer subsidized economy driven by militarism. Yet, American capitalism claims to be the paragon of “free enterprise” and “private ownership.”

Since the end of the Second World War, the characteristic feature of the US economy is militarism and the military-industrial complex. Arguably, without this annual massive injection of public money, so-called “American capitalism” would collapse.

That’s why it is vital for US economic survival, under its prevailing economic system, that the world is constantly presented to the American taxpayers as a threat to national security. It’s the equivalent of telling children scary bedtime stories.

US-based political analyst Randy Martin says America’s war-driven economy is not only a threat to world security from the inevitable antagonisms it fosters, but also this economy is threatening the collapse of American society from exorbitant waste of resources.

It is reliably calculated that the US has racked up its national debt by some $6 trillion from wars and military spending over the past 17 years alone. That “war debt” represents nearly one-third of the total US national debt of $19 trillion – making the United States the biggest debtor nation in the world.

Martin adds: “The US has been addicted to economic militarism for decades. It is destroying our economy and endangering global security by continually seeking out wars and enemies. The bitter irony is that Pentagon chief James Mattis claims to be keeping the homeland safe when in fact it is the Pentagon which poses the greatest threat to American society, not fictitious enemies like Russia and China.”
Another integral factor too is that disproportionate US economic exploitation of the planet’s resources is dependent on maintaining military superiority.

On that point, Mattis was perhaps more candid than he intended when he stated in the National Defense Strategy document: “The costs of not implementing this strategy are clear. Failure to meet our defense objectives will result in decreasing US global influence, eroding cohesion among allies and partners, and reduced access to markets that will contribute to a decline in our prosperity and standard of living.”

It is a pretty shocking admission by Mattis. He’s saying that America’s “standard of living” is purchased through a strategy of military dominance over the rest of the world. He also discloses, albeit unintentionally, that what is really bothering US state planners is their diminishing power to act unilaterally as before, owing in part to the growing power of Russia, China, and others in a multipolar world.

Mattis laments: “For decades the United States has enjoyed uncontested or dominant superiority in every operating domain. We could generally deploy our forces when we wanted, assemble them where we wanted, and operate how we wanted. Today, every domain is contested—air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace.” (This article was cut to fit space).
