Mexico defies Halloween and brings the Day of the Dead to New York (Video)

CITY OF MEXICO (apro).– The city of New York, in the United States, underwent its first procession for the Day of the Dead, in which the assistants were dressed as catrinas and catrines, and used other costumes to continue with the tradition. In its social networks, the Consulate General of Mexico in New York said that during this first procession of the Day of the Dead there were more than a thousand participants.

He pointed out that the event was led by Consul Jorge Islas, accompanied by Commissioner Manuel Castro and the president of the County of Manhattan, Mark D. Levine. They departed from Times Square to Rockefeller Center.

On October 27, Islas, together with the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, inaugurated, for the second consecutive year, the Great Offering of the Day of the Dead in the Central Plaza of Rockefeller Center.

The consulate also shared a video of El Charro de México and the Catrinas touring the most iconic places in New York, representing “the best of our traditions.”

In addition to the catrina parade through the streets of New York, the following activities have been prepared and will be open to the public until November 2:

– Exhibition of José Guadalupe Posada at 10 Rockefeller, Lobby.

– Exhibition of the giant skull of the artist Enrique Cabrera at 30 Rockefeller.

– Giant Offering at Rockefeller Center Plaza.

– Huichol art sculptures by artist Césa Menchaca at Top of the Rock.

– Tianguis in the plaza of the Rockefeller Center.
