UK hospitals on the verge of collapse as socialized medicine fails

by J. D. Heyes
Natural New

If you want to get a good look at the future of healthcare in America, compliments of the “Affordable Care Act,” the monstrosity reform law known not-so-affectionately known as Obamacare, look across the Atlantic to Great Britain. Because of that law, our system is set to become nearly as socialized a system of medicine as is the system in England, where top doctors are now predicting that a number of hospitals there are “on the brink of crisis,” the BBC is reporting.

That’s not politics, that’s reality.

According to the Royal College of Physicians, a trio of issues – rising demand, increasingly complex cases and falling numbers of hospital beds – is contributing to the destruction of the healthcare system there.

In fact, the college’s assessment said urgent care was already being compromised, warning that the situation was going to get worse unless some real workable solutions were implemented.

As is usually the case, especially in the U.S. – where messianic faith in the “government-knows-best” approach is rampant among our entrenched bureaucracy and many of our elected leaders – British paper-pushers are tut-tutting the school’s assessment, claiming the country’s National Health Service (NHS) can handle any challenge, pending or in the future.

Worsening standards, smaller budgets, less care

Part of the problem, the college said, was that medical science had led to longer lives. But just because people are living longer doesn’t mean they are always living healthy lives; conditions such as dementia are complex and require more care, thereby adding to expenses.

At the same time, the college noted that the number of hospital beds have fallen by one-third in the past 25 years (a similar fate has befallen U.S. hospitals too, by the way), amid rising numbers of emergency admissions.

In addition, the RCP reported that standards of care were also sliding in hospitals throughout the country. The report “cited the way older patients were repeatedly moved around wards, the lack of continuity of care while in hospital and tests being done during the night as some of the examples of how care was suffering,” the BBC reported.

The report went on to highlight the results of member surveys, in which a number of physicians and health care professionals voiced concerns over discharge arrangements and the workload they were enduring.

“This evidence is very distressing. All hospital patients deserve to receive safe, high-quality sustainable care centered around their needs,” said RCP Prof. Tim Evans.

“Yet it is increasingly clear that our hospitals are struggling to cope with the challenge of an aging population who increasingly present to our hospitals with multiple, complex diseases,” he continued. “We must act now to make the drastic changes required to provide the care they deserve.”

But how to fix things?

The RCP report recommended closing some hospitals and concentrating services in fewer, though larger, medical sites that are able to provide better round-the-clock care. But that approach would have to be accompanied by resultant improvements in community services as well, since there have been many British patients who wound up in the hospital because they didn’t have adequate help closer to their home.

“These latest findings are alarming but, unfortunately, not surprising,” said Jeremy Hughes, chief executive of the Alzheimer’s Society. “It is painfully evident that the healthcare system stands on the brink of crisis. People with dementia are going into hospital unnecessarily, staying in too long and coming out worse.”

Britain is the future

What does all of this have to do with America and Obamacare?

The British NHS is all government (taxpayer) funded; there is very little room for private-sector innovation and management. It is simply a top-down, top-heavy bureaucracy, much like Obamacare when it gets fully up and running.

What’s more, as care becomes more expensive and the resources to fund the system become more scarce, the NHS has resorted to rationing care.

Oh, but wait. That’s Great Britain, right? That can’t happen here in the United States. Obamacare fixes all of that.

No, it doesn’t. A government-run healthcare system in the country of our founding fathers does not work either. And you should know, there are already advocates in the U.S. calling for rationing.

One such advocate is Peter Singer, a “prominent Princeton University ethicist.”

Still confident “the system” will take care of you into your old age?

Digital TV: Mind control by the sound of silence

Marvin J. RamirezMarvin J. Ramirez

FROM THE EDITOR: Dear readers: I hope all of you have enjoyed the article series from the past weeks. This is the Forth and Last Part of this illuminating story written by By A. True Ott, PhD, ND, The Sound of Silence, which exposes the intention of the elite’ pursuit to gaining total control of all humans in the U.S. and the world through technology. It is a source of information not offered by the mainstream media or the educational system, which much of the time works for these same corporation by conducting researches and studies that will not benefit the people, but rather the elite.

Author’s Note

This is an extremely timely and important essay. It overviews a secret Pentagon psychotronics technology known as Silent Sound Spread Spectrum (SSSS) that has been fully operational since the early 1990s. I first found out about the use of this technology from Al Bielek in a 1992 video he made with Vladimir Terziski. This technology was used against battle-hardened Iraqi troops fortified in deep underground bunkers in Kuwait and Iraq in the first Gulf War in January of 1991.

THE SOUND OF SILENCE
The Antithesis of Freedom

Again, the absolute secrecy surrounding the development and deployment of the electromagnetic mind-altering technology of the Sound of Silence in a very real way reflects the tremendous power that is inherent in it. This is why Eisenhower knew that he had to warn the nation about it back in 1961. To put it bluntly, whoever controls this technology literally has the power to control the minds of men — all men and women everywhere.

Of course, whoever controls the minds of all humans, controls the wealth and destiny of planet Earth. Furthermore, Stubblebine, as commander of Army Intelligence would likely follow the prescribed manual of all covert ops, such as is found in a declassified US manual for the planned subversion and coup of the government of Nicaragua. The manual instructs the CIA “guerilla forces” to engage in different “false front” organizations designed to win the respect, trust, and influence of the enemy. Once complete trust and confidence is achieved by means of the activities of the “false front,” then the destruction of the enemy by means of misdirection and disinformation tactics can more easily be executed.

I would submit there is no better “false front” to infiltrate in America than Natural Health proponents, for they are typically healthier, better informed, and more dedicated to preserving individual freedoms and fighting tyranny than other Americans. Thus, there could be no better “false front” to establish, and there is clearly no more potentially vicious wolf hiding in sheep’s clothing than the man who knows more about the Sound of Silence secret deployment than any other human…

There is ample evidence that certain elitists in America and Israel plan to definitely extend the capacity of this technology to encompass all people on every continent. A key to this is the HAARP project where ELF and VHF frequencies can indeed be beamed off of the Earth’s ionosphere to various GWEN towers world-wide.

Of course, the US Government officially denies all of this, telling the talking heads of the controlled news media that the GWEN towers are merely private cell-phone towers with no ulterior agenda, and therefore anybody who thinks otherwise is a lunatic-fringe conspiracy nut.

The evidence to the contrary, however is clear and unequivocal. Dr Michael Persinger is a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Laurentian University, Ontario, Canada. Concerning this subject, Dr Persinger writes:

“Temporal lobe stimulation can evoke the feeling of a presence, disorientation, and perceptual irregularities. It can activate images stored in the subject’s memory, including nightmares and monsters that are normally suppressed. Contemporary neuroscience suggests the existence of fundamental algorithms by which all sensory transduction is translated into an intrinsic, brain-specific code. Direct stimulation of these codes within the human temporal or limbic cortices by applied electromagnetic patterns may require energy levels which are within the range of both geomagnetic activity and contemporary communication networks. A process which is coupled to the narrow band of brain temperature could allow all normal human brains to be affected by a sub-harmonic whose frequency range at about 10 Hz would only vary by 0.1 Hz.”

Dr Persinger concludes the article by writing:

“Within the last two decades a potential has emerged which was improbable, but which is now feasible. This potential is the technical capability to influence directly the major portion of the approximately 6.5 billion brains of the human species, without mediation through classical sensory modalities, by generating neural information within a physical medium within which all members of the species are immersed.

“The historical emergence of such possibilities, which have ranged from gunpowder to atomic fission, have resulted in major changes in the social evolution that occurred inordinately quickly after the implementation. Reduction of the risk of the inappropriate application of these technologies requires the continued and open discussion of their realistic feasibility and implications within the scientific and public domain.”

How can one have an “open discussion” on the subject when government circles continually deny the existence of such technology?

Register and make it count in November

by Maria Teresa Kumar is CEO President of Voto Latino

Sometimes, elections draw attention to our differences, the places where we have competing ideas about what’s right for our country and what it will take to solve our most serious problems.

But, there are a couple of things we can all agree on. Every citizen has the right to participate in these critical decisions about America’s future. And the more people who are involved in making those decisions, the stronger our nation will be going forward.

That’s why I’m so excited about September 25th. On that day, we have the chance to launch a new American holiday – National Voter Registration Day.

Over the course of a remarkable 24 hour period, volunteers, celebrities and organizations from all over the country will hit the streets to register voters and collect pledges to vote from people who are already registered.

Groups that aren’t usually involved in registering and mobilizing voters will be joining in on this special day, amplifying the work of organizations that devote their heart and soul to encouraging more people to register and vote.

We’ll use on-the-ground organizing, special events and social media to reach and register tens of thousands of people in person and online. By the time we’re done, we will have drawn the attention of people all across the nation to our simple message: Register in September, Make It Count in November.

In 2008, 6 million Americans didn’t vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn’t know how to register. This year, we want to make sure no one is left out.

National Voter Registration Day is the most compelling way we can do that. I hope you will join citizens all across the nation – people of every party and political persuasion – as we put our differences aside and come together to celebrate the rights that unite us as Americans. You can register today in a few minutes by going to www.VotoLatino.org. National Nurses United is the sponsor of this article.

Maria Teresa Kumar is CEO/President of Voto Latino. Named by PODER Magazine as one of the most notable 20 US Hispanics under 40 years old. Under her leadership, Maria Teresa grounded the organization in technology developing the first voter registration via text message in 2006. She has grown the organization from a voter registration outlet to the leading social media, online community with over 15 media partners, 120 bloggers, 20 national partners and a field operation in seven states which have registered over 120,000 voters. Maria Teresa most recently hosted the first English language, prime-time townhall with MSNBC called “Beyond Borderlines: Latinos & Immigration”.

DHS enlists citizen spies via new Smartphone App

Encourages Americans to take photographs of “suspicious” persons & vehicles

by Paul Joseph Watson

Infowars.com

Smartphones: instruments of espionage?Smartphones: instruments of espionage?

Homeland Security officials in Delaware are hoping to enlist citizens as spies for the state by encouraging them to use a new app which allows smartphone users to attach pictures of “suspicious” vehicles or persons and send them directly to the federal government.

“The Delaware Information and Analysis Center (DIAC) now offers a mobile app to report suspicious activities in real-time by attaching a photo, sending location information, or entering details about suspicious vehicles or persons. In addition, users can choose to make their report anonymously or can include contact information for follow-up by law enforcement,” reports DailyFinance.com.

The new “Anti-Terrorism Mobile FORCE 1-2 App” is available for both iPhone and Android users and is being touted as a method of leveraging tips provided by citizens to “help protect the State”.

The information received is channeled through the state Fusion Center (DIAC) and then shared amongst federal, state and local law enforcement.

The federal government has moved to aggressively protect federal Fusion Centers, which are littered across the country, from Congressional insight and has shielded their employees from taking responsibility for their actions.

A memorandum of understanding written by the FBI back in 2008 dictated that information collected by Fusion Centers could only be disclosed to Congress as part of an investigation “after consultation with the FBI.”

The memorandum also, “Exempts even reports and statistics that could show overzealous surveillance and other possible misbehavior by Fusion Center staff,” writes Declan McCullagh.

Under the Department of Homeland Security’s See Something, Say Something initiative, all manner of banal activities have been characterized as “suspicious”.

A 2011 PSA for the program labeled behavior such as opposing surveillance, using a video camera, talking to police officers, wearing hoodies, driving vans, writing on a piece of paper, and using a cell phone recording application as potential indications of terrorism. The last example is particularly ironic given that the DIAC app requires people to take photographs in public to report suspicious activity – an activity which in itself has been characterized as suspicious by the authorities.

Earlier this year, we reported on a number of flyers issued under the FBI’s Communities Against Terrorism (CAT) program which identified behavior such as paying for a cup of coffee with cash, showing concern for privacy when using the Internet in a public place, or using Google Maps as potential signs of terrorist activity. Enlisting untrained citizens to be the eyes and ears of the state is a classic hallmark of an authoritarian society.

At the height of its influence around one in seven of the East German population was an informant for the Stasi.

History clearly tells us that using citizens to inform on their fellow countrymen does not make a nation safer and only serves to breed distrust and suspicion amongst a host population.

As Robert Gellately of Florida State University has highlighted, Germans under Hitler denounced their neighbors and friends not because they genuinely believed them to be a security threat, but because they expected to selfishly benefit from doing so, both financially, socially and psychologically via a pavlovian need to be rewarded by their masters for their obedience.

Having the state encourage citizens to report “suspicious activity” is not only un-American, it represents a SF now opens until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays direct attack on the idea that a law abiding citizen can go about their business without the onerous psychological pressure of knowing that their every behavior could be analyzed and misinterpreted by a fellow citizen.

This psychologically compels people not only to moderate their behavior, including their political speech and exercising of inherent freedoms, but it also bolsters the myth that terrorists are potentially lurking around every corner and that the vast bloated budgets swallowed up by federal Fusion Centers are justified.

In reality, as Ohio University’s John Mueller has documented, the likelihood of actually being a victim of terrorism is infinitesimally small, a fact which only highlights how such threats are hyperbolically exaggerated for political and monetary purposes.

Rats fed lifetime of GM grow horrifying tumors, 70% females die early

by Mike Adams
Natural News

Eating genetically modified corn (GM corn) and consuming trace levels of Monsanto’s Roundup chemical fertilizer caused rats to develop horrifying tumors, widespread organ damage, and premature death. That’s the conclusion of a shocking new study that looked at the long-term effects of consuming Monsanto’s genetically modified corn.

The study has been deemed “the most thorough research ever published into the health effects of GM food crops and the herbicide Roundup on rats.” News of the horrifying findings is spreading like wildfire across the internet, with even the mainstream media seemingly in shock over the photos of rats with multiple grotesque tumors… tumors so large the rats even had difficulty breathing in some cases. GMOs may be the new thalidomide.

“Monsanto Roundup weedkiller and GM maize implicated in ‘shocking’ new cancer study” wrote The Grocery, a popular UK publication. (http://www.thegrocer.co.uk/topics/technology-andsupply-chain/monsant…)

It reported, “Scientists found that rats exposed to even the smallest amounts, developed mammary tumors and severe liver and kidney damage as early as four months in males, and seven months for females.”

The Daily Mail reported, “Fresh row over GM foods as French study claims rats fed the controversial crops suffered tumors.” (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2205509/Fresh-fears-GM . . . )

It goes on to say: “The animals on the GM diet suffered mammary tumors, as well as severe liver and kidney damage. The researchers said 50 percent of males and 70 percent of females died prematurely compared with only 30 percent and 20 percent in the control group.”

The study, led by Gilles-Eric Seralini of the University of Caen, was the first ever study to examine the long-term (lifetime) effects of eating GMOs. You may find yourself thinking it is absolutely astonishing that no such studies were ever conducted before GM corn was approved for widespread use by the USDA and FDA, but such is the power of corporate lobbying and corporate greed.

The study was published in The Food & Chemical Toxicology Journal and was just presented at a news conference in London.

Findings from the study. Here are some of the shocking findings from the study:

• Up to 50% of males and 70% of females suffered premature death.

• Rats that drank trace amounts of Roundup (at levels legally allowed in the water supply) had a 200% to 300% increase in large tumors.

• Rats fed GM corn and traces of Roundup suffered severe organ damage including liver damage and kidney damage.

• The study fed these rats NK603, the Monsanto variety of GM corn that’s grown across North America and widely fed to animals and humans. This is the same corn that’s in your corn-based breakfast cereal, corn tortillas and corn snack chips.

The Daily Mail is reporting on some of the reaction to the findings:

“France’s Jose Bove, vice-chairman of the European Parliament’s commission for agriculture and known as a fierce opponent of GM, called for an immediate suspension of all EU cultivation and import authorizations of GM crops.

‘This study finally shows we are right and that it is urgent to quickly review all GMO evaluation processes,’ he said in a statement. ‘National and European food security agencies must carry out new studies financed by public funding to guarantee healthy food for European consumers.” (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2205509/Fresh-fears-GM . . . )

Read the study abstract The study is entitled, “A Comparison of the Effects of Three GM Corn Varieties on Mammalian Health.” Read the abstract here: http://www.biolsci.org/v05p0706.htm.

That abstract include this text. Note: “hepatorenal toxicity” means toxic to the liver.

“Our analysis clearly reveals for the 3 GMOs new side effects linked with GM maize consumption, which were sex- and often dose-dependent. Effects were mostly associated with the kidney and liver, the dietary detoxifying organs, although different between the 3 GMOs. Other effects were also noticed in the heart, adrenal glands, spleen and haematopoietic system. We conclude that these data highlight signs of hepatorenal toxicity, possibly due to the new pesticides specific to each GM corn. In addition, unintended direct or indirect metabolic consequences of the genetic modification cannot be excluded.”

Here are quotes from the researchers:

“This research shows an extraordinary number of tumors developing earlier and more aggressively – particularly in female animals. I am shocked by the extreme negative health impacts.” – Dr Michael Antoniou, molecular biologist, King’s College London.

“We can expect that the consumption of GM maize and the herbicide Roundup, impacts seriously on human health.” – Dr Antoniou.

Monsanto, coup government are merchants of death, says Lugo

by the El Reportero’s news services

Fernando LugoFernando Lugo

The overthrown Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo said on Wednesday that U.S. multinational Monsanto and the coup d’etat government currently in power in Paraguay are sowing death and destruction.

Lugo took part in the closing ceremony at an agro-ecological fair sponsored by peasant and indigenous organizations as part of the Week of the Seed, which aims at protesting the marketing of transgenic seeds to sow cotton and corn.

During his speech, Lugo emphasized that his administration worked for two years to recover the native seed previously and successfully used, but the June parliamentary coup d’etat put the multinationals, especially that of Monsanto in the driver’s seat, to exterminate the native seeds.

Great multinationals like Monsanto have been sowing death in Paraguay’s native seed stock since the coup, but we will make our traditional seed blossom again, Lugo assured the crowd.

Narco’s capture boon for Colombia & Venezuela

On 18 September President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia announced that in cooperation with Venezuelan security forces, “the British intelligence service, the MI6, and also with the very effective cooperation of the intelligence agencies of the United States, especially the [Central Intelligence Agency] CIA”, ‘El loco’ Barrera (Daniel Barrera Barrera) had been captured in San Cristóbal, a town in the Venezuelan border state of Táchira.

Venezuela’s presidential election campaign has taken a turn for the surreal. President Hugo Chávez is calling on the rich to vote for him to avoid “a civil war”. His rival, Henrique Capriles Radonski, is assuring the poor that if Chávez is a Socialist he is a Marxist-Leninist as he endeavours to convince doubters that he is the real social reformer and would not just maintain but also enhance the social “missions” which are the most popular feature of the Chávez administration.

The linguist Francisco Barriga said that here are spoken 60 languages, with 364 indigenous variants, to announce the V Endangered Languages Meeting, which will be held on September 27 as part of the XXIV Book Fair of Anthropology and History.

Barriga stressed that in the country are preserved the native languages due to several political-educational, editorial work and program of social groups research, seeking conservation and in particular the revitalization of those who are at risk of disappearing.

The researcher, who is national coordinator of the National Institute of Anthropology and History stressed that the literature in native languages is not new, but lately seen an increase in their production. “There are novels, poetry and stories”, he said.

He also warned tha the problem is not in the book publishing, but also in having readers.

Ex military leaders call junk food “national security threat”

But Obama-supporting lobby group is not interested in real threats like GMOs

by Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com

In a move that will undoubtedly annoy those who feel the Obama administration has become smothering in its nanny state efforts to control people’s diets, ex-military leaders have been enlisted to declare war on junk food by declaring it a “national security threat.”

With one in four military age males in the United States deemed too fat to join the Army, retired generals and admirals are coming together under the banner of Mission: Readiness, a “nonpartisan national security organization” run by the Council for a Strong America, which recently received half a million dollars in funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Council for a Strong America is primarily a lobbying group that has previously donated to the Obama campaign.

Mission: Readiness is set to hold a press conference on September 25th which will include speakers such as Richard B. Myers, General, US Air Force (Retired), Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, James M. Loy, Admiral, US Coast Guard (Retired), along with Former Commandant of US Coast Guard & Former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Norman R. Seip, Lieutenant General, US Air Force (Retired).

“Calling childhood obesity a threat to national security, retired US Air Force Gen. Richard B. Myers, who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2001 to 2005, will join other retired generals and admirals who are members of the national security organization Mission: Readiness in issuing a new report on improving the quality of food served in schools,” states the group’s press release.

There’s no doubt that eating a healthy diet and avoiding too much junk food is more important today then ever before, especially given the increasing amount of artificial additives in food that have been linked with obesity and other diseases.

However, conservatives who think the government, along with Obama-supporting lobby groups, have no business telling people what to eat have become increasingly wary in recent years over the Obama administration’s efforts to dictate to people how they should manage their diets.

This propaganda campaign encouraging kids to eat healthy food (which in many cases isn’t even healthy) has infested the schooling system to the point where in places like North Carolina, elementary school officials are searching kids’ lunch boxes in order to ensure their parents have packed food which reaches nutritional standards.

As the Carolina Journal reported earlier this year, “A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious.”

This nanny-state mentality has been received badly in many quarters, not least because both Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are routinely pictured eating junk food as part of photo-ops while lecturing others about their culinary choices.

Indeed, President Obama has been seen eating junk food so often that the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine launched a formal petition earlier this year to ask that Obama stop doing so in public.

This rage against the nanny state has perhaps most prominently manifested itself in New York, where Mayor Michael Bloomberg has moved to outlaw sugary drinks, forcing people to instead choose diet drinks which in fact contain more harmful toxins like aspartame and as a result are more damaging to people’s health.

Michelle Obama subsequently praised Bloomberg’s approach, applauding a measure which treats Americans like children in using the state to make decisions for them and in turn denigrating the free market.

The FIrst Lady has even launched her own supermarket shopping guide, and yet the guide contains no information whatsoever on some of the real dangers posed by artificial sweeteners, MSG, genetically-modified organisms, meat preservatives and other toxins in food.

A new GMO food study released today reveals that genetically modified corn and trace levels of Monsanto’s Roundup chemical fertilizer “caused rats to develop horrifying tumors, widespread organ damage, and premature death.”

The Obama administration has gone to great lengths to staff the FDA with former Monsanto executives, people like former Monsanto lobbyist Michael Taylor, who was responsible for allowing genetically modified organisms into the U.S. food supply without proper safety testing.

In other related news: Social workers take baby boy after mom refuses to feed him processed junk food

by David Gutierrez
Natural News

British social workers took a toddler into custody after his parents refused to feed him junk food.

Paul and Lisa Hessey of Bolsover, England, took their two-year-old son Zak to a doctor when he began refusing to eat his mother’s cooking and dropped to 17 pounds.

“I thought I was … going to the best people for advice when Zak began to lose weight,” his mother said. “Instead they basically accused me of neglecting him and implied it was all my fault.”

Doctors advised Zak’s parents to feed him junk food in order to stem his weight loss. His parents, firm believers in healthy eating, refused.

“I have four other children and they are perfectly healthy, it was just that Zak was refusing food for some reason,” his mother said. “They said I should just feed Zak chocolate, cakes and junk food just to get calories into him. But I objected, saying that was only a short-term answer and not a proper solution.”

The Hesseys were then informed that social services was going to take Zak into custody.

“They kept saying, ‘If you love Zak and you want the best for him then you’ll agree to this,’ Lisa Hessey said.” They said we had been negative about eating.”

According to Mrs. Hessey, the social workers also said, “You have legal rights but be warned if you oppose this we will go straight to court and have all your parental rights taken away.”

Intimidated, the Hesseys did not object. They were barred from seeing their son until they hired a lawyer and secured one three-hour accompanied visit per day. After four weeks of battling in court, the Hesseys won the return of their son. In spite of being fed junk food while in state custody, Zak had gained only one pound.

“The government and doctors are always drumming into parents the importance of healthy eating — yet they were telling us to feed Zak all the wrong things,” Mrs. Hessey said. “That is obviously what they were doing when he was in foster care so now it is hard to get him to eat anything else.”

This is interesting: Japan takes on ‘Cholo’ culture

by the El Reportero’s news services

Jóvenes japonesas adoptan cultura de los cholos.Young Japanese girls adopt ‘Cholo’s culture.

A Chicano subculture which reached peak popularity in the U.S. between the 1940s and 1970s, has made its way to Japan.

There appears Japan has a growing community of “cholos” and “cholas”, a look now most commonly seen among Los Angeles street gangs.

Japanese rappers like MoNa aka Sad Girl have created careers with a mix of Spanish, English, and Japanese rapping.

The look includes baggy jeans (pants and shorts), over-sized knaki shorts, flannel shirts, white undershirts, bandanas, flat-brimmed baseball caps, dark lip liner for cholas, lowriders, jerseys, clearly visible tattoos, gold jewelry (often crosses), and knee-high socks. Interestingly, there is often also the presence or depiction of a Mexican flag.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Filipinos living in East Los Angeles also developed an affinity for the cholo culture.

But just as the Chicano culture has made its way to Japan, it has also allowed U.S. record labels a new market in which to promote their cholo/a artists.

Jaime Diaz, President and CEO of Urban Kings Music Group, recently told OC Weekly, ‘Japan has been more of an avenue for profit. We distribute to stores out there and it helps us out a lot. Japan will be the first place to buy product from independent artists.’ Japanese cholo artists have even taken on names like EL LATINO, GARCiA, and EL-REY.

Who knew East Asia would be the new home of the cholo? Or is it J-Cholo?

ABC family orders pilot for adaptation of Mexican drama Terminales

ABC Family has reportedly ordered three pilots, among them an adaptation of a popular Mexican drama series.

Terminales, which was created and produced by Miguel Angel Fox, was a 13-episode Televisa show that ran from 2008 to 2009.

“Terminales is a one-hour drama based on a successful Mexican television format by Miguel Angel Fox and follows a young woman’s life after she is diagnosed with a terminal illness. The pilot was written by Susanna Fogel and Joni Lefkowitz. Aaron Kaplan (GCB, The Neighbors, Terra Nova), Fogel and Lefkowitz will serve as executive producers. It will be produced by Lionsgate in association with Televisa.

“ABC Family is synonymous with groundbreaking dramas, and this summer we found additional strength with our comedy lineup. These pilots will further our strength in both areas and add to our existing slate,” said Kate Juergens, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development, ABC Family.

“In fact, over the past few years, the network launched the #1 new basic cable series in target demos with Pretty Little Liars in Summer 2010 and ‘Switched at Birth’ in Summer 2011, and launched the #1 new cable comedy of Summer 2012 with Baby Daddy. It’s a trend we are working to continue.”

The other two pilots are for Phys Ed and Continuing Fred. All three pilots will go into production this fall along with the previously announced drama pilots The Fosters (working title), from executive producer Jennifer López, and Socio, from executive producer Gavin Polone.
