October 4, 2022 – SAN SALVADOR – The most recent polls emphasize that at least 94 percent of the population approves of Bukele seeking re-election.

It is empowered after the resolution of the Constitutional Chamber that, exercising its functions as the highest interpreter, enables this process, said Raymond Villalta, a psychologist and opinion columnist for Diario El Salvador, akin to the government.

The acceptance, support and accompaniment of the people are a constant throughout the presidential period, it is only necessary to see any evaluation or survey. Yes, you can take any and in each one the same thing is verified, he said.

However, criticism is frequent from opposition sectors, divided, without programs and even more, without a figure that can offer resistance to the president at the polls, at least currently and on the way to the elections on February 4, 2024.

The day before, for example, the digital newspaper elsalvador.com, nothing related to the current authorities, published a broad assessment in which it raised other ghosts that haunt the president’s aspirations to continue at the helm in the Presidential House.

Political analyst Álvaro Artiga pointed out that the international community might not recognize Bukele if he wins re-election in 2024, which for observers from the sidelines is a prelude to interference in internal affairs, since only the Salvadoran people are responsible for making that decision.

Artiga indicated that Salvadorans do not have access to information on how Bukele’s government officials handled public funds and with that freely decide on re-election.

The political scientist and researcher at the Central American University José Simeón Cañas approached one of those ghosts that try to create sectors that oppose the government, true or not, it is early to venture such interpretations, experts estimate.

There are politicians who assure that the president supports his aspiration in an interpretation of the Constitutional Chamber imposed by the ruling party on May 1, 2021, despite the fact that the Constitution in six articles prohibits continuous presidential re-election in El Salvador.

According to Artigas in an interview with Radio YSUCA, the resolution that supports the re-election was issued by a room that is questioning its integration and its constitution.

Another ghost that the report addresses is whether other parties should compete in 2024, which some understand as an attempt to delegitimize these elections.

Dina Argueta, from the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, expressed that if “in 2024 we have this problem of fraudulent presidential elections, it is evident that this type of election will not be recognized anywhere. Let’s say, in the international community that is democratic, they are not going to recognize this type of election.

Thus, the cards are on the table and it is up to the people to say the last word, Bukele or a candidate who has not yet appeared on the Salvadoran stage.
